Oil level sending unit removal
I've got a 72 T. The area around the oil sending unit was leaking oil quite a lot.
I unbolted the oil tank, and moved it slightly backwards toward the rear wheel just enough so as to be able to remove the bolts holding the oil sending unit in place, I realized why it was leaking immediately, there were several of the small bolts missing. I removed the rest of the bolts and proceeded to try, I mean try to remove the oil sending unit. After an hour or so turning it up down across, I've had no luck. Anything I should know about how to get the d@**% thing out. I've got a new one and judging from the new one, although difficult to remove, it should come out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
It will come out and go back in! It takes a bit of fanagling. Try taking a stiff piece of cardboard and cut a hole the exact same diameter that's in the oil tank. With your new sending unit try different ways, angles, etc to get it in and out and see which way works best.

oil level sending unit saga
After trying again, I finally gave in and removed the oil tank. Once the tank was out, I was able to remove and replace it with a new one in about 5 minutes.
Got the whole thing back in and engine started in about 30 minutes. The oil level indicator finally works and no oil leaks anywhere. Thanks for the all the help. |
