Elect. fuel pump no power?

My 1988 911 is having intermittent failure to start. I traced it to the fuel pump, which would run if I put power directly to it, but it was not getting power when I tried to start the car normally. All the fuses are good, and clean at connections. I found that if I jumper fuse 6 (fuel pump) to fuse 7 (on with key on only) The car would start & run fine. Removing the jumper, the car would sometimes continue to run. Other times it would stop pumping. Must have an intermittent bad connection in the fuel pump circuit. Checked all connections at the pump, all good. Where else do I look? Thanks, JcL

Comes from 87b of the DME relay to fuse 3 of fusebox 1 to the fuel pump. 87b also goes unfused over to the OXS heater.

Sorry for delay, just got back from a week long vacation. Is there a way to test the DME relay? Maybe I can check the voltage at 87b when I turn the key to start? Don't want to spend that much money unless I'm sure it is the problem. Thanks!

When you hold the key in the start position their should be 12 volts on fuse #3

A DME relay is About $40 and some advocate carrying a spare.

Oh man thats not bad. I was thinking the DME control unit under the drivers seat, they are about $1-2000! It's just a relay, I'll get one and try it. Thanks for your help!
