912 to 911 conversion help

I am looking at buying a 2.2l long block to drop into my 912. I have already figured out the mounts on the chassis side of the install, but since I am buying a long block and it is not complete I am not sure what I need to mount the engine.

Looking at pictures of the 6cyl motor it looks like it sits in a craddle? Maybe this is what is referred to as engine tins? Do I need the tins? Looks like earlier cars did not, or they were less visible. There is definitely a piece across the front that is structural, its just below the fan and runs the width of the engine.

I will be putting carbs on it so once I fgure out the mounting all I think I will need is an altenator, fan, engine cover (directs blown air over cylinders) exhaust. Missing anything?

This is my first porsche car. I am mechanically inclined, however this is much different than my '88 M3 racecar.

Good luck, sounds like you are going to be busy for a while. Keep us aprised of your progress with pics. Ahh... the E30 M3. one of the coolest cars I've ever lusted for. A Simply beautiful and formidable car. You sir, have awesome taste.

Thanks for the compliment! Just to clarify, the major mounting point on the engine that I was referring to is sometimes called a crossbar.

I noticed you're in San Diego. We have a shop in Poway where there are usually a couple
911's if you need to look at one or take any measurements in person. If you want to swing by just send me an email:
