Anyone in New England willing to help me fine tune CIS?

Hi Everyone-

I have a '78 SC that my wife and I will be taking on a major road trip this summer. It won't be the biggest one we've done in the SC (14,300 miles in 2.5 months all 4 corners of the US) but we're headed for Montana from Boston.

What I'd like to do is fine tune the CIS. The car runs well, but I've never fiddled with it and know that it could be better. Quite often the idle is too high (1100 rpm) and when it's cool out (45 F or less) the startup idle will approach 2k+ rpm's for the first few starts. I've never done a sniff test on it either.

The engine has about 50k on a rebuild. I've never done anything to the CIS in the 6 years I've owned it, besides adjust the idle. I love to learn and am hoping someone could spend a few hours to check it over while I helped and watched. I'm a fairly confident shade tree mechanic, I just don't want to mess up anything and am limited on time and the proper tools for this type of work. I'll gladly pay shop rates, I just don't want to miss the opportunity to watch/learn/help. I live outside Boston, but am willing to travel for this opportunity.

Any suggestions or comments?
Thanks in advance-
Brian

Hey Brian! I'd be happy to help. I'm not super familiar w/ the later CIS systems (i.e later SC), but I do have the basics covered, and I have a very good manual on Bosch K-Jetronic. We can even make your WUR adjustable if deemed necessary. I may be able to borrow a wideband air/fuel meter as well.

I do not, however, have the CIS gauges. If you want to learn the accepted methods of tuning CIS, you will need these. Perhaps you can borrow some from someone or order them. Last time I adjusted my CIS, I used air/fuel ratios to get the settings I wanted, but factory literature uses control pressures for tuning.

I'll pm you my home and cell #'s.
