Oil level indicator question.
the car is a 74 911. Oil level indicator moves off 0 when the car is started, doesn't peg to top, but doesn't indicate correctly either...stays at 1/2 way point no matter what. Gauge is perfect, and wiring is intact, so it appears to be the sender. I replaced one of these once as it was completely dead. My question: do these senders ever respond to cleaning? Or should I just assume it is dead and source a new one? Any help appreciated.

Have you verified that the gauge is indeed wrong? These only work correctly when the car is idling on level ground (just like when you check your oil).
Next time you check your oil, check the gauge reading also. I have found mine to be pretty accurate. If yours is way off, then yes, I woudl check the sender in the oil tank. Good luck! Craig |
My oil level indicator has never worked, I just use the old "dipstick method" and I wouldn't trust the gauge even if it did work...

Gauge works as it should. Swapped out of another car where it has been spot-on for years. Know about waiting a minute, level ground, etc. Thanks.
