Need help, AFM rough settings

Guys, just replaced the inlet manifold gaskets on my Carrera 3.2 1985, but I need an approximate setting for the AFM mixture adjustment screw just to get me close so I can drive the car to work and fine tune it on the gas analyser. The gaskets had sucked in that badly that the mixture/idle is now well out of adjustment.

Any help appreciated.

ps have tried the search function to no avail.

Cheers

It is a federally mandated setting - however -
IIRC - I found my settings at 3 complete turns in.

Unscrew it all the way until it stops loosening, then tighten it three whole turns in.

I marked my little allen as it went in with each two turns. This way, I didn't have to go through this each time. Now I can simply put the allen key in and see how far I moved the screw.

I unplugged my O2 sensor, connected my DVOM to the O2 sensor and chased it until I found my O2 sensor bouncing between rich and lean. It was rich ( > .8 volts ) with the O2 disconnected.

My Gunston (sp?) reads 2.2 with O2 disconnected now. But I still have a stumble on the initial acceleration.

Good luck.

Thanks Nick, I'm in the UK so the CO limits are are a little more relaxed than in the USA. ie <4.5% CO and <1200 ppm on hydrocarbons with no Lambda reading as the car doesn't run a cat. I was screwing the adjustment all the way in ie clockwise until seated and then screwing anti clockwise 2 1/2 - 3 turns out so I'll try your method. My adjuster does screw all the way out so to clarify your advice I unscrew it all the way out then in 3 turns?

Unscrew it all the way out then in 3 turns. That's about where I am at.

good luck.

Thanks Nick, managed a tickover of sorts and was able to drive the old girl to my work and fine tune on the gas analyser, job sorted.
