Need Help finding Short '90 964 (C4)
I have a drain somewhere on my '90 964 (C4). Are there any common areas/issues for these 964's that cause this car to drain the battery? Its hard to find the issue as the problem does not always exist. (No I am not leaving the lights on:)) Sometimes the car sits for a few months and fires right up and other times, the battery will be dead in less than 5 min so I know what ever is pulling power is doing it fast and all at once. I would not be asking this question except a few months ago a ran into a '90
C2 with the same issue, the guy had to unplug the battery between stops, so I thought it might be somewhat common. Of course I dont want to do this and want to find the issue and fix it right. Tried all the first thought issues and had a dealer and a euro shop go through to try to figure it out with no luck. Anyone had this issue? Car is 100% stock I have not added anything for perfromance parts or even an after market radio. Thanks. |
On my '92 I had the same problem and finally found the engine bay light was staying on at times.
Unfortunately with these type of problems you have to resort to pulling fuses and then testing to see if you are still drawing current at the battery with a meter. Good luck - |

There is something about the green wire (If I remember correctly) that must be grounded, this is critical if the car radio was ever replaced (under warranty or something...), pulled, etc..
So maybe is loose that's why is inconsistent. Search in rennlist, there are a few threads about power drains in the 964 forum |
