Akron/Cleveland Valve Adjustment-Anyone w/Experience Willing to Check My Work?

I completed my first valve adjustment last night. Even though I have read all of the posts including the back side method, I would sure feel better if someone who has experience with the proper "feel" checked the clearance.

Trying to avoid putting it all back together and then having to take it apart again to re-adjust. Any Pelican's in the Akron/Cleveland area willing to lend a hand? Shouldn't take too long for someone who knows what they are doing.

Check clearance using the backside method described in the Tech Info Center. .0025 fits and .003 does not. Super easy. Then you can use the special gauge to get a better feel of the "drag" on the .004 gauge.

Hey Wellborn, I'll be the man if it does not clackety, clack, clack when its all back together! These cars were made to work on by someone with really small hands and the uncanny agility of a contortionist.

I have been getting a lot of enjoyment working on the car. Unfortunately, I have also had the opportunity to learn a great deal from my mistakes.

i'm in the falls......i'm free in the evenings after 7pm, shoot me a pm if you want to meet up.
i've done the valves on my 3.2 every year for the past 6 and have a pretty good feel for them.....
i like to use my stethiscope (sp?) to listen to them when i'm done to listen for any inconsistancies, i can bring it with me if you want.

Sounds like a party! I may stop by to say "hi" if I see a couple of "strange" 911s in your driveway. But don't count on any help from me -- moral support only!

Let me know when the party is. If it is tonight I can't make it -- I am going to the Indians game.

Bell

Thanks for the quick tutorial on valve adjustments. Can't wait to open mine up and cut some knuckles.

Bell is a really good dude! He gave up his Thursday night to help out a total stranger. The whole process took longer than I anticipated because I had every valve too loose. We were able to get everything adjusted in about two and a half hours. It would have been quicker, however, he let me do two or three and checked my work which slowed us down.

no problem helping you out doug, it's good to have another local pelicanhead who likes to do their own work.
did you go back through and double check them before buttoning it up?
i forgot to leave you my stethescope too.....i'll drop it off saturday or the next time we meet up.
valve adjusts take patience, you didn't really slow the proccess down......it would've taken longer if you had a cat

Hey Brian-

I didn't have a lot of time tonight so I went back through turned the fan and checked each adjustment by clicking the adjusters. All the tops had a little click but the most of the bottoms were pretty tight. I went the 240 degree route and confirmed that the bottoms were too tight with the tool. Either I am going crazy or these little buggers are tightening up after turning the fan.

I went back over all of the bottoms again and most seem pretty spot on the second time around except #2, which I know was good before I turned the crank.

I'll get back after it this weekend. Got to get this thing back on the road!
