Real or Fake?!? 8x16" Fuchs

I just got a set of 7&8x16 rims for track use and think they may be fake.
For a start I'll show you the 8x16" rears:

Wheel 'A' has the fox and part number stamp, but the part number looks a bit messed up.

Wheel 'B' is the one I'm most concerned about - the paddles seem to have the sharper edge commonly seen in fakes. It has the part number and fox stampings, but I just seem fixated on the paddles sharper edges - did the Fuchs factory change the molds or forgings around 1980-81? Are there fakes our there that have all the correct markings? Were the fakes cast from a mold of this odd original?

Any direction would from some of the wheel refinishers on the board would be great (Jason Cullen & Alex Magro I'm looking at you!!)

I really don't want to use fakes on the track and if they are in fact not the real deal, they will go back on Monday.

Thanks,
Andrew M

Wheel 'B'

those look to be real to me.. they have the little fox head.. and what looks to be a 911 part number. that being said.. I am no expert. I hope someone else can conform this for you.. but I put my money on them being real.

Yes, they're both genuine .

The Factory made a modification to the forging in the early '80's to make the wheels thicker in order to take account of the increasing weight of the cars - hence the change in part number.

Wheel B looks it was polished at one point, then repainted back to black.

Definitely the real deal, I have a couple of pairs of 8s and the subtle diffs are normal.

As plumb4u2 said there are some good fakes out there but if you look at the way the radiuses blend together in the center and at the corners of the outside of the petals they usually will stand out as different. I agree that your's look real.

I don't think there has ever been a fake 16 inch Fuchs that is anodized. They are usually some kind of polish or "machined" dull finish to simulate anodize.

Hard to tell from your picture, but yours look anodized.

Shape wise, they sure look real.

Also, I can see yours is a 16x7 on the back of a G50 Carrera. 16x7 Fuchs would have been stock on the 87/88 Carrera ('89 came with 8s on the back, nice!).

So, I'd be yours are not fakes.

Thanks,

The reason I was asking was the wheels are mint, and the previous owner I bought the car from said, the guy he bought it from, replaced them because the car had some 90's after market wheels on it that he did not like. So I started to wounder...

Thanks again the info
