930s steering wheel install questions...

Hi Guys:

Is there anything I need to know before I install a 930s wheel on my '89 3.2? It didn't come with instructions, so if anyone has done this, step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated- pictures would make it even better!

I did a search- seems there is a circlip thingy that has to be removed somewhere?

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

Thanks Tim- so am I correct in thinking the hub goes on first, connect the horn wires, then the wheel goes onto the hub, and I'm done? Does the horn pad on the 930s pull off like the original?

Thanks,

Paul.

Yup you are correct...first hub then wheel...although on my SC the wheel and hub just stay together and when I undo the 27mm? nut I can just wiggle it all off. (After unpluging horn wires)

Yes the horn pad pulls off of the wheel...it takes a firm pull.

Not sure about a circlip...there is a wavey lock washer between the hub and nut on my car though.

Good luck with your upgrade...I just recently switched back to a stock SC three spoker...the 930 wheel was looking a little beat.

Cheers, Coop

Thanks Coop- do you know where the two wires go? I only see one in the picture of the original wheel and two on the 930s. Guess I'll figure it out!

Cheers,

Paul.

You will probably need to reuse the turn signal canceling ring from the back of your existing wheel.

Jerry:

The new hub has a tab on the back which (I think) is the turn signal release. I'm going to try the install today- so watch this space for either before & after pictures or a bunch more questions!

Thanks,

Paul.

Update:

I can confirm that a 27mm impact socket WILL NOT FIT in the hole in the original wheel. Off to the auto parts store to buy a regular 27mm socket...

Make sure your wheel is dead centered and the front wheels are straight before you take the old wheel off. This will make lining up the new wheel a lot easier.

Thanks Mark! It was way easier than I had expected- and I think it really freshened up the interior. Next job- fix/replace that worn shifter knob!

Hey Paul- Looks great! Glad you figured it all out.

As for your shifter, you can try having it re-dyed. Also our host or AGLA sell a kit that allows you to replace the leather...not sure if white will be available...might be worth looking into having an interior repair guy just clean yours up and re-dye it.

(I work in automotive exterior re-conditioning and constantly come into contact with interior repair guys. You're probably looking at less than $100 to have the shift boot taken care of.)

Cheers, Cooper

Cooper:

I just bought a new one on Ebay. Looks a lot better than mine- I'll either use it as-is, touch it up with some dye or turn it black and sell it...

930s install was a breeze. Hope the other jobs are this easy!

Cheers,

Paul.
