Success at last!

My car, like most has been plagued with oil leaks for years. I am one of the lucky 911 owners. My engine now has 227,7xx miles, never been touched, other than normal engine tune-ups. Last summer, I put the third clutch into the car and fixed some minor external oil leaks. December, one cold day at the big track on Willow Springs, my car decided to leak profusely. By the end of July, it was actually streaming from the right side (turned out to be the cam box to engine seals). The engine internally seems to be really good. The car pulls really strong and shows no smoke, even after sitting for a week or two (never has).

This engine drop, I finished fixing the various leaks at both cam towers and attacked whatever else I could as well. After a few spirited drives, I am happy to say that this engine is leak free! My car has decided to reward my efforts, by forcing me to buy two new rear Goodyear F1's (new tires today), the odometer/trip stopped working - damn gear (I fixed that too)! and finally, the oil pressure sender decided to fail - I beat on it with my mag-lite and it's working again .

So, knock on wood!...

Success at last!

Glad to hear you got things sorted Dave. Amazing things can be performed with a Mag-Lite. An exceptional universal tool like an adjustable metric spanner hammer.

Hey Dave,
Could you post some photos of the oil pressure sender fix? I've been dying to do mine, and would appreciate the documentation.

Sweet!

But...

I have learned to NEVER say such things ("engine is leak free" or "This repair is going much better than I had thought") anywhere near any car, let alone the subject car. Worse yet, document it in writing. All cars seem to talk with each other somehow. For your sake, I hope Porsche's can't read.

Or do Porsche's only understand German? Enquiring minds want to know.

Yikes, aren't you worried about valve guide failure??!!!???!!!

Joking, of course. This made me think of a post on Renn where a potential buyer was really concerned about VG issues on Carreras.

Ha Ha! I remember that thread.

Dave, congrats on getting the car back to working order. It's nice to have a clean, leak free engine, isn't it? Myself, every time I see my car, I can't help but take a peek under it half expecting to see a drop of oil. To my continual amazement, it's dry as a bone.

Did you buy the stock size 225's or did you go wider?

Marcus, nice nick name! I enjoy working on my car. There are frustrations, but the end result always feels good.

Nine9six: It would be hard to get pictures. This would require two people and I'm afraid the camera person may get hit! Imagine you are one stroke behind Tiger Woods.... It's the 18th hole, you have your 1 wood and you are ready to hit a hole in one!

burgermeister: I know I should not talk about such things, but it's sooo nice.

efhughes3: What valve guides???

Scott: I stuck with 225 for the rear. When I finally can afford a pair of 8's or 9's, I'll definitely change tire sizes.
