question on gas cap seal rubber.

Yesterday when re-filling gas, I realized that the rubber seal on the gas cap is kindda cracked slightly. Is there a replacement rubber seal I can get somewhere or do I have to get the whole cap? Second question is if I can get any universal cap somewhere local or it has to be the P cap?
BTW, mine is the red one with the key lock on it.
Thanks.

I looked on Pelicanparts and found only the seal which look like it is to the hose/neck, not the cap (pic below). What is cracking is the seal on the cap, not on the neck of the filler.

You need a sealing cap to pass smog in CA. Any cap will do, you can pick one up locally at your autoparts store. It will look different but function the same as your stock cap. I was getting the car smogged and the cap was bad - the smog shop sold me a generic cap right there for $9.50.

I don't think your red, locking cap is an OEM cap. It sounds like an Autozone or Pep Boys cap to me.

My car just passed my smog test last month. I asked the tech which area should I pay attention for next test. The tech told me the car passed way far so shouldn't worry at all. Yes, the seal on the cap has some cracks but maybe because it's only on the outer edges.

scottb,
but I can lock it with my ignition key. If it's Autozone's cap, I don't think my ignition key would work on it. I will stop by Autozone anyway.

RoninLB,
How do you know it's not sealed when you try it on?

Thanks.

Do you mean after you finished filling your gas and drive? I am talking about the seal ON the gas cap.
Anyway, my car always leak, not from the seal on the neck, but where the nosal meet the neck. I have to slow down everytime filling gas.

my gas cap seal eventually leaked with an old cap seal. You could smell fumes in the cabin. Then Stoddard sent me one of 3 listed part number cap seals for my '77. It still leaked on the 2nd try. Was fume free on the 3rd try.

later on i had to pull fender to redo fill neck to trunk hose + all other rubbers.
maybe a pro has an easier method?
