Windshield seal 964 or 911?

Can I replace my windshield seal in a older 911 with the trimless seal of the 964? Or is there a problem in not installing the trim? Thanks, MGH

I'm not positive, but I think you have to use 964 glass as well. That was what I was told.

You definitely need the larger 964 windshield for it to work.

964 Windshield

Does the 964 windshield fit the older 911's if you use the 964 windshield seal?

I'm surprised that ( by now) the recent and longish thread about this whole mess didn't yet show up. Claims and counter claims of working and not working.etc....also..that a 993 window with seal would work but a 964 would not, etc. etcc.

Do a search on the usual key words and be sure to include "Doc" ( Air-Cooled Classics fame)....as he was part of this thread. I'm not in a position to find it at the moment... anyone ??

Thanks all, I did find a thread in the archives which is not definitive on a answer. Porsche did make a weather strip at one time without the trim but it is NLA. I guess for now I will stick with my old windshield. Anyone out there have a later carrera windshield with the internal antenna they want to sell? Thanks, MGH

I think it may be a case by case issue, as there may be some slight variation between cars.I installed a 911 windshield in my 76 coupe using the 964 trim, and its been that way for about 2 years now with no issues. There is some slight flex if you push on the windshield, and it overall just doesn't feel quite as tight as I think it should. I've had the car to at 140+ but I still think I may change it in the future.

I was told this week that the sc / 3.2 window frame is identical to the 964.
That would mean that you can use either windshield provided you use the corresponding seal for that shield.

I am after this because I consider replacing the 964 window that is originally installed in my '89 3.2 (!) with the older type which is considerably cheaper.

if you dont like the trim on the early one, just remove it. It does NOT help hold the windshield in.
