Aaron

84P8 should be a 2.2S piston. The diameter should be 84mm.

Could you post a pic of the ones you have?

Tom, this one measured out @ 86.7mm. Mahle apparently used the same forging.

Hi All

Does anyone know the difference between 84V48 (2.2 T 84mm) and 84V54 (2.4 T 84mm) pistons?
In other words can 84V48 be replaced with 84V54?
Are there any modifications required?

Thank You in advance

The dome heights are different between the two pistons.

The 84V48 gives a compression ratio of 8.6 when used with the 66 mm stroke crank in the 2.2 motors. The 84V54 gives compression ratio of 7.5 when used with the 70.4 mm stroke crank in the 2.4 motors. The difference in stroke is worth about 0.5 in CR.

If you put an 84V54 piston in a 2.2 motor you will get a CR of about 7.0. This is too low and will hurt performance. If you put an 84V48 in a 2.4 motor you will get a CR of about 9.1. this will offer a performance improvement.
