Can I remove those bellows?
I have an '83SC and would like to know if there is a way to make the original bumper (front & back) fit to the fender and eliminate the belows?
Will removing the bumper shocks and use a different bracket work? Thanks, Michael '83SC '00 528 '99 323 |

Someone on this board had created a metal insert to replace the bellows, it looked quite smooth.
If you intend on making the bunpers edge flush to the body, You would have to weld shorter brackets.

I wouldn't mind trying to come up with some new brackets but I'm not sure if there is any interference in pushing the bumper back that far and how the edge of the bumper would look against the fender.

You will lose clearance on both ends, on the rear the exhaust, and on the front there is a metal piece mounted in the front right and the windshield washer resivoir in the left and probably a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting.
![]() If you just don't like the appearance of the bellows, I would recommend fiberglass aftermarket. The modification you are talking about does not add any perfromance enhancement to your car and will probably end up just looking wrong no matter how good of a job you do. ![]() There are a lot better things you can do that actually enahace the performance. ![]() If you just need to do somthing check the valve clearance.

snbush67,
Thanks. That's the type of info I wanted before I got into it. I've decided to just clean up the front end a little by putting on a Carrera valence. From what I've read, the after market fiberglass parts seem to require a lot of fitting/alteration work to get a proper fit. I'm going to get the bumper hood and new valence painted and possibly look for a set of Fikse FM10 wheels. I now have 7 & 8 fuchs that are in beautiful shape but I've seen the fikse on a black 911 like mine are they looked awesome. Thanks for your reply. Michael,
I think your on the right track. If you are doing the front you should do the rear also, it would be best to lose the weight from the rear rather then the front. I think it would be economical and less time consuming in the long run to take a different approach. By replaceing the rear bumper components with FG you can make the most weight loss. Also, if you do them at the same time you can prep and paint additionally the lines of the car will look better and match up from front to rear. You may also want to consider removing the rocker panels and filling in the holes and prep and paint that area as well. I like the bumper car look of the impact bumpers, but modofications done right can look great and enhance the performance. WR Shane
