A good ten hour day....

I managed to get a lot done in the last ten hours....

Dialed my rebuilt 40 IDAs in using the old 2.2 in the racecar
Bolted them a final time with linkage to the race motor

Swapped the headers off the old motor and installed on the race motor

Dropped the old 2.2 motor partway, and separated the 71 911 trannie from the motor...then took the clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing and bolted them to the new motor.

Got the motor off the engine stand and onto the motorcycle lift

Connected the new motor back to the trannie....(and used a little voodoo to get the clutch fork back onto the throwout bearing)...and bolted it up into the car.

Had a couple minor issues with a bad starter that needed to be swapped for an extra one I had, and a bad pressure sender.

Got the oil pressure up, gas pressure ..no leaks...double checked the dizzie for TDC on number #1. Connected the new 14 pin and engine harness.

Connected the coil and it fired up in the first 10 seconds of cranking. I reset the idle high, jumped in and drove it for 20 minutes. Wher i live that means 2000 ft elevation change whichever direction I turn out of my driveway. So his first 15-20 minutes of life were under load at 3000-3500rpm both up and down hill. No smoke whatsoever.

Now I have to drain the oil and repeat....and dial the carbs in a little more.

After I get my short shift 915 shifter (thanks Mike) converted for 901 use I'll get back to the SWB project...

Awesome accomplishment! Attaboy Speedo, with this total rebuild of your new 2.2S engine you now have done about everything in the realm of home upfixin' 911s, --short of a transmission rebuild. Might learning the internals of a 901 tranny and their gear ratios be what you are going to do next over the winter? You did put that support brace for the exhaust on before the drive right?
