azasadny - hows the replacement going??
Art - havent heard any updates lately. How are things going? I am doing the "while you are in there" stuff. Pedal cluster, clutch cable and sound pad. The engine / trans is ready to go in. Where are you at with your swap? Cheers, Mike.

Mike,
I've got the engine/tranny 95% out, I haven't had time to do the rest yet. I'm taking a vacation day Friday to complete the removal, then seperate the engine from the tranny, cleanup the engine compartment (it's a mess!) and get the old engine stored somewhere. When the new engine arrives, I'll install the new clutch, replace hoses, wires, etc... then bolt the engine to the tranny and get it installed. The "install" part is what's concerning me. I did the drop by myself, but I think I'll need help getting everything put back in correctly! Thanks for asking!!

The obligatory "standing in the engine compartment pics...
Dropped it last PM. Only problem was the lack of space in my garage. Now I need to separate the tranny and get ready for the new engine and cleanup the engine compartment (note the toddler pool to catch the drippings while I'm cleaning...)

Today's progress...
Today I removed the tranny from the engine and rolled the engine out of the garage on the ATV/Motorcycle jack (that was fun!). The old engine is covered with a tarp, next to the garage. I cleaned the tranny and starter with steel wool and degreaser. Tomorrow I will clean and degrease the engine compartment and prep for repainting the engine compartment on Sunday. Hopefully, the new engine and clutch parts will arrive next week and I'll start putting it all together again.
The clean transmission... ![]() Me, in all my grubbiness...

Ben,
Yep, your seats are still in the car and are great! I bought another 2.7L CIS from a '74 so it's exactly the same as my engine, except the head studs aren't pulled! I'm a novice at this, so I thought it would be easier to do a "same for same" replacement, so I can match everything up. The 2.7 has plenty of power for me, the replacement was necessary because my head studs were pulled and the distributor shaft is bent (bad cam timing?) and the engine is "tired" and needs to be rebuilt. I'm also putting in a new Sachs clutch "while I'm in there". It's alot of work, but very satisfying!

Progress so far...
Yesterday I cleaned and degreased the engine compartment, then painted the compartment with acrylic lacquer (black) from a can with a brush. So far, so good...
I reglued the engine compartment firewall pad, then started to replace the heater hoses (they're a pain!)... ![]()

I did not know we both have 2.7's until now. FYI: The RSR Rally pot luck dinner last weekend went well. Jim Dowty and Wayne (Ohha) were there, my voltage regulator was not working so I took the zebra car. I have one question: Did you disconnect the shifting coupler before pulling the tranny? Some people say you should do this, others don't bother because it's disconnected elsewhere I assume.

Kach,
Yep, I disconnected the shift coupling at the tunnel. I was very careful and took my time to get everything out. I can't wait for the "new" eingine to arrive. The new Sachs clutch and some other small parts arrived from PelicanParts yesterday. I won't get much done on the car this week, but I'll be back at it again this weekend. Jeremy, this pic was taken AFTER the shower and cleanup! I was covered in dirt and grease, especially after removing the axles!

Not much done since Sunday...
I haven't done anything except fight with the heater hoses (those are a pain!), put another coat of paint on the engine compartment and the new Sachs clutch came in. Here's the car and my "summer-time desk" in the garage.

Ryan,
I sprayed PBBlaster on the lines the night before the removal and I used two large wrenches (BFW's is the technical term, I think) and they came off with no trouble. The heater hoses are another story, the new ones are a pain to get back on! There must be a trick to it... I can't logon to your Mid911 website because I don't have a userid and password, but I'm registered. Can you help me out? Thanks!!

Yeah, it was 92 degrees that day and I wasn't about to wear long pants. I waited until I was done and had a good, hot shower before I had the "self-congratulatory" German beer. Alot of work for one person, I don't know how you guys do it, but with my cramped garage, it was tough!

Cleaning up old engine and removing parts
I had to remove the tin and muffler from the old engine. PBBlaster and a breaker really helped. This doesn't look good...

I pick up the "new" engine at the Yellow Transportation terminal in Detroit tomorrow AM. I'll put the new clutch in and my old muffler will be going back on. I hope to have the car on the road in a week or two (depends on complications, rusty old bolts, etc...).
