Gauges – Few Misc Questions…

Hello!

1.) There are three indicator lights running down the center of my Oil/Temp Gauge. The top one (red) does not have a bulb/cable associated with it; anyone know what this is for? The other two, green and red…what do these monitor? Engine? Trouble? Temp? Electrical? The OEM manual does not describe these well, if at all…

2.) The indicator lights for high-beam (blue), low fuel (red); and others alike, are so darn “dim”. Even at night I cannot see them well unless I really look close. I have checked the bulbs and cleaned the socket/lens; no luck! Any recommendations on how I might be able to brighten these up?

3.) Finally, I installed those LCD gauge back-lights (little better, but no cigar…). Not what I expected; but I remember reading a thread on this a while back. I expected as such…

Thanks again!

Tom,

1) Top light is brake warning light. It should flash when the engine is running and the e-brake is on and go off when brake is released. I believe it also lights when you press on the brakes and you have low pressure or low fluid.

Green light is low oil pressure, and not all cars have this light. If it goes on when driving, stop immediately and do some serious investigating.

Bottom red light is alternator and should go out after car starts. If it comes on could be broken belt, or some failure in the charging circuit.

Sorry, I can't help with your other two questions. I hope what I gave helps.

Thanks much LJ!

I guess my car doesn't have the brake monitoring. I have a separate light (red square on dash) for the e-brake though.

I appreciate the info on the other indicators. Super!

Mahalo!

My 78 SC has the same configuration as yours and uses the square light as a parking brake indicator.
