fuel distributor filters ,does anybody know??
HI all, car in question ,1980 SC
I know there are small filters under the fuel line fittings on the fuel distributor topside. does anyone know if there are small filters behind the wur return line fitting where it enters on the backside of the fuel dist? and or is there one on the main (larger) fuel return line coming out of the backside of the FD . i still have a small restriction and i have narrowed it down to the fuel return side of things. the backside fittings are a b to get at so would like a definitive answer before i go in there. Thanks everyone. Bruce |

There is a screen in the WUR that sometimes gets clogged.

If you search Grezdlitn he posted a thread on fuel distributor cleaning that had pics of the thing disassembled.

Bosch CIS fuel distributors commonly have little screens under the fitting. Actually, they are usually accessed by removing the small plugs that are right next to the fuel line fittings. The plug is about the same size as the fuel line fitting, and right next to it. It takes a small Allen tool, as I recall.

Lonewolf,
Check your e-mail as I have forwarded you my cell number. There is not a filter associated with the return line that I can recall but several places where a restriction might cause problems (inside the distributer itself). In any case I think you will have to remove the return line fittings. Perhaps back flushing with a little Chem-tool. Mark

Lonewolf,
There are no filters on any of the return lines. They are only on the pressure sides of the various components, i.e., big external fuel filter leading to the Fuel Distributor, little filters inside the FD leading to the injectors, and the screen on the pressure side leading into the WUR. I think it would take a relatively large size piece of debris to lodge inside the FD in the return from the WUR or the pressure regulator insdie the FD, but that is not to say that this couldn't happen. There cold also be some restriction inside the Frequency Valve which could act in much the same way as far as leaning out the mixture, as this also has a return line back to the tank. BTW, the filters in the FD are under the banjo bolt, not under the plugs next to the banjo bolt. The fuel flow adjustments are under this plug.
