Please help answer this question Regarding Rear Reflector on an SC
This question seems to come up a bit and keeps gettting different answers.
Really simple: Is the rear reflector on a 1979SC 911 held on by ANY screws or does it simply PRY (carefully) off ? I have been wanting to smoke this part but with all of the confusing answers I have not done it yet. I did try and pop it off but it seemed pretty secure and i was afraid of cracking it. let me know thanks! |

No screws on the early SCs, although I think that there may be screws or bolts on other models of 911.
On an early SC, if you lift the rear hood and look down the gap between the sheetmetal and the reflector, you will see white plastic pieces on each end and in the center. Each of those white plastic pieces each have two posts that extend into clips that are anchored into the sheetmetal of the rear of the car. To remove the reflector, you just pry the posts out of their clips. A stiff putty knife works well. Be very careful, though, because it is very easy to crack the reflector. It is also easy to scratch the paint, so cover the edge of the sheetmetal and the putty knife with tape. |
