DFW: Starting engine build Saturday 9/8
I'm starting on the bottom end of my engine this weekend. I cleaned the case last weekend, and I'm inspecting parts and checking clearances this week in the evenings. I'll at least get the rods on the crank this weekend, and start toward getting the case together. Anyone that wants to come by, you're more than welcome. PM me for directions or call me on my cell at 469 831-9738.

Ed,
Great to see you are getting this back together. I would love to stop by but GAF calls this weekend. I am sure you will have all the helpers you can stand. BTW do you want me to put your name ona set of these ITBs for you? Regards, Bob |

Hi Bob: You're right, I'll have plenty of help. I just thought I'd post it up for all to know.
Those are sweet throttle bodies! I'd love to go down that path, but that will have to wait. Have fun at GAF, wish I was going....

Hey Marco, it was great to meet you (and your 993) as well. I hope you can make it over to the "Engine Excellence by Ed" shop on Saturday.

Unfortunately I will be out of town but I'll try to get by at a later date. I am particulary worried about timing the cams so I'd like to see that done. I'll be tackling this myself soon.

I inspected and mic'd the rods and crank tonight, and checked bearing clearance. All systems are go for Saturday.

I hope....the rods should be pretty straight forward, I'm using a stretch gauge to "torque" them. The case sealing is where I get a bit of indigestion. But, I've got everything really clean, and all 4 types of recommended sealants, so if I take my time (as much as sealing will allow) and don't lay too much of any one sealant on the surfaces, it should be good.

Thanks to all who came by today, I truly appreciate the help and moral support!
I got the rods on the crank, the foundation for the build. I also made up some supports for the LH rods and timing chain out of some aluminum sheet for when I assemble the case next weekend. I anticipate putting the bearings in the case halves tomorrow, as well as the crank, oil pump and layshaft in preparation for the big day next Saturday. In my opinion, when I get past these first two "hurdles", I'll hit stride and my anxiety level will be a bit lower. ![]() ![]() ![]()
