Interest in Ceramic Coating
Looks like I may be starting a ceramic coating business and I am looking for ideas . What sort of 911 parts would you guys like to get ceramic coated ? I was thinking valve covers , intake runners , exhaust , engine tin ? , fan shroud ( not sure if clearance would work ) . I know most of us porsche guys are not big on bling , so I would imagine black would be a big plus . What do you think ?

I've seen valve covers on ebay before, seems to be good interest. In midwest seems most guys tend do start such cosmetic projects in winter due to less actual driving opportnities.
I like the raw metal look close to factory as possible myself. (no bling) Post some pics of what you have done. . . -Tom

Are you doing all the coatings like internal engine bits?
I like the exhaust coatings. Is it more $ than powder coating the valve covers?

Initially we would just do external parts . We are also working on getting a dyno to test our products . It should be slightly more than powder , but the product will be of higher quality .

Ceramic coating is an insulator, yes? Applying it to the valve covers will prevent heat from transferring out. The exhaust system is a great candidate for this material, even better if you can coat the insides as well.

Correct me if I am wrong , but the lower valve covers will be taking heat from the exhaust which is much higher than the internal temp . I would think that Ceamic coating on the lower covers and exhaust would lower engine temps as well as lower the temps that the lower head studs were exposed to making them less prone to pulling ( mag ) or breaking ( aluminnum ) .

Excellent point about the lower valve covers being exposed to exhaust heat. Heat travels from a hot area to a cooler area. The exhaust system is definitely hotter (much).
But doesn't everybody have a set of these? I'll retract my earlier statement. Ceramic coating would be a good idea on the lower covers AND the exhaust system. The upper covers should be reserved for paint brush or spray can. Sherwood Seine Systems |

Well, I gave Chris at PerfomanceKote a shot with my 993 heat exchangers and muffler to be coated with 2000 degree ceramic coating. I was very, very disappointed in their workmanship and coating. Unfortuneately we were not able to agree on a proper resolution to the problems. So, I'm out over $500.00, (this included the price of shipping back and forth and the coating applied), have a damaged muffler and now must send everything to another vendor to have them redone. One thing I did not know before hand that Chris's partner relayed to me is that most aftermarket performance products come with NO warranty expressed or implied and are usually NOT street legal. In the end, will I do business with PerformanceKote again? Never.

Slammed1000,

Not happy
Not wanting to air dirty laundry , however we are left with no choice . This individual waited 3 weeks and 2 thousand miles before contacting us with any problems . He also never provided any proof of said damages or made a claim with UPS . We offered to redo parts and pay for shipping for FREE . This customer stalled and just wanted his stuff at no charge . His price was 380.00 plus shipping for 2 heat exchangers and a Triad muffler . I have all the PMs and will post them if necessary . We also contacted another vendor and before we could finish asking if he knew the individual he called out the customer . I am not going to be intimidated by his threats to post . Our shop has been in business for 8 years and do great work and have a 3 year warranty . Just check out our website www.performancekote.com and you will see that we do great work .

Chris,
First off, I only posted to this thread to let others know about the ceramic coating I had done. I did not get into your business practices nor do I intend to here, that is the reccommendation from my attorney. Like I told you before, I cannot trust any company or individual where I have to place a fraudulent claim against with my credit card bank for unauthorized charges, that is why I could not take you up on your offer to recoat my parts. I've come to the realiziation that I must move on and find another vendor to recoat my items, and that is why I have asked for pictures from another member here. My feelings are that this is a closed matter and we both must live with the choices we have made. Tom

But he says they have a 3 year warranty. Is that not accurate?

That is accurate . We have a warranty on all new parts for 3 years . As previously stated we offerred to recoat and pay for shipping even though his HEs were used . I really wanted to see this for myself . He would not even send a pic.
Also for the record ROUXZY filed a claim with his credit card company for 90.00 . He however was denied after all pms and correspondence was looked over by the credit card review board . Just wanted to set the record straight . www.performancekote.com
