Wacky Sport Seat Question
Hmmmm.... I have a set of manual sport seats (late 70's vintage) that a client brought in for new cables.
We've replaced the cables and cleaned the seats up but I noticed one of the back rest rake adjustment knobs was broken. But the weird thing is these seats have levers for the back rest rake adjustment. I've only ever seen the rotary knob type of adjustment for the back rest. Anyway, I need one of those black plastic knobs for the back rest adjuster. I can't seem to find any diagram of that seat in the Porsche parts film. Could these be after market knock-offs? Are they from a specific year? Anyone familiar with this arrangement? Beyond the back rest adjusters- they look like standard issue 70's and 80's sport seats. Thanks in advance! ![]() |

the black plastic turn knob adjust the back incline, as you stated.
check out Pelican's parts catalog, and you'll see em. The center cap comes out and you have to turn the retaining clip to get the old knob off and the new knob on. let me know if you need pics. |

Thanks for your reply, but perhaps I wasn't clear... these actually have a lever instead of the rotary knob for the back rest. There's a black plastic "finisher" on the end of this lever that I need.

aha...I wonder if it's like my 914-6 seat.....can you post pictures?
My 914-6 is like a lightweight shell. The whole seat moves as a single unit. You tip it forward or to the back by pulling on a lever. Is that what you are talking about? |

I am going to try to post a picture. The lever is #21 in the diagram. The knob you want is #22, if this is the type of seat that you are working on.

That knob may work- though the seats don't look like the 914-type seats. They look just like these:
![]() Only with full manual adjustments and these stupid backrest levers! I have a feeling that they're either knock-offs or some weird option. |

those are wacky seats alright.
you might have some luck posting here: http://www.pca.org/tech/ I think you can also make plastic pieces using the original as a mold. Dentists used to do this in the old days. Find a Dental Technician in the phone book, or look for a custom plastic manufacturer under "plastic" in your area. Around here we have a company called "precision plastic" that has helped me make pieces for my car. |

What you have are mid-year factory Recaro sport seats. The knob on the lever is the same for most all early stock Recaro seats.

I knew you guys would come through!
![]() I see now that the film doesn't really show the lever on the seat. At least I know I'm dealing with a factory seat and can forge ahead. Thanks guys! |

my 1970 914-6 has a different type of lever, but the plastic knob looks to be the same.
