Recaros(?!) for my 911. out of what? Identify if you can

Just picked these up under the assumption they were just Recaro knockoffs. Didn't matter to me. I got them really cheap to recover for my 911SC. Once home, I start looking to see who made these seats and there, right on the side "Keiper Recaro". Can't find anything about these seats online. On the sticker it says "Typ 560011 KBA 90311/ Vertrieb : Keiper Recaro GmbH & Co/ Remscheid" Any info on these?

They look to be aftermarket model LW seats from about 15-20 years ago.

KTL 09-12-2007 11:41 AM

They look similar to the old Recaro SE seats.

Similar to mine as well - old Recaro's from 1980's.

Bolt straight in using the Porsche rails - bolt distance is the same but used 3/4" square tube as spacer. Without it I was sitting way too low.

+ 1 REcaro SE, I had a set in my Sc, straight bold on.

kimlangley7 09-12-2007 01:43 PM

I had one of those for my drivers seat in my BMW2002... bolted right in.. still have it in hte way back in the basement.. had the headrest sound option...

OOh, that is unexpected but good info. Recaro Se's fit in a BMW 2002 stock ? If so, that is excellent news for me ;-) If I can find a pair of SEs, that is, I dont; think they make them anymore !

This is the one I was thinking it looked just like before I bought them. The old SE. Funny thing is the word "turbo" on the backrest. Thats why I thought they had to be out of something...like 80's cheesy turbo mitsu or Swift or something. Looks like they have never been recovered. Looks like the Recaro fabric on my 91 GTi seats except black. If somebody did reupholster them, they did a good job back in the 80's or early 90's. Thanks everybody for the info!

I have SE's which I bought new two years ago. Got em online from a dealer in Minnesota. They bolt right in to the old seat tracks in my SC.

tmsautoart 09-12-2007 06:27 PM

Nice to know they will fit my SC w/ no probs. Is it safe to say the fabric is almost like velour headliner material? I think it is even foam backed. I'm sure it is different as headliner fabric doesn't seem like it would be as strong and durable.

Looks like it's from 91-92 Volks GTI 16valve model. Same style but usually black or dark grey

Going to have to disagree with you on that one. I happen to own a 91 GTi 2.0 16v w/ factory Recaros. The ones I just bought are different. Bolsters are way deeper on the VW. The GTIs were all blueish grey during 91-92. The only difference in the GTis were whether they were power or not. I'm just happy they will fit into the SC without major work. Sorry about pic. I know its hard to tell...only one I could find that showed the seats.

I don't recall Mitsubishi using Recaros, or that font, in the 1980s. The font looks more aftermarket then OE really.

Although Ford did use Recaros in the Euro Escort Turbos. Not sure what font was used as most these days seem to have been retrimmed, and the ones in my 1988 brochure had Recaro badges.
These look like the same style that my youngest sister had in her Proton GTI, factory fit in the Malaysian hot hatch! She wished she could have kept them.

I was being more sarcastic than factual. I just remember my Mom had a 1986 Colt Turbo sedan and it had bad 80's looking "turbo" font on the steering wheel that looks just like the style on the seats.

So, anybody have a decent set for sale...?

LS maybe?

gtihop 09-13-2007 11:55 AM

excuse me- i guess are cars are different up here in the great north!!!

TGTIW 09-13-2007 12:11 PM

They are a standard Recaro aftermarket seat, not one out of any model of car. In the late 80's, when Recaro was doing their Modular line, the Turbo was their entry level seat, if you can call anything with Recaro prices entry level... Still a great seat, is it's pretty much the same as the SE.
