Alignment help needed......
Hey guys,
I have a 1987 Carrera that has recently been aligned and corner balanced and has driven perfectly since. Last night the sway bar bushings got replaced, but in the process, one A-arm had to come off. Needless to say, the ride height bolt was not marked until after some turns and by then any mark was useless. Here is what I am experiencing. The car lightly pulls left and the steering wheel is slightly turned to the right. I have tried adjusting ride height in both directions to no avail. When I set the height too high, the steering wheel ends up even more cocked to the right. Lower is better, but I was headed off to lower settings that what are on my sheet from the professional alignment shop. Any general guidelines, such as "wanders left = XXXX, Steering wheel off center to YYY direction = ZZZZ" etc. I know this is hard to diagnose from a chair, but only one variable has changed. I just need to figure out how to get back to the proper height. Tape measurements on the fenders don't do it either, I have tried that. Thanks for any thoughts/ideas -Chris |
If it pulls left, you can lower the the LF by turning the bolt counter clockwise, or, raise the RF by turning the bolt clockwise. Either one will reduce the load on the LF wheel.
Kinda helps if your on your on your back if using a wrench. If you use a ratchet; you can set the ratchet for righty tighty clockwise, or, lefty loosey counter clockwise before you get under the car. :D |
I think there's some play on the A-arm mounting. Since you have re-installed, it probably changed one or more of variables (toe, cast, camber, height).
I found that adjusting the height in any one corner will affect the other corners as well, especially the diagonal corner. |
