How to ship a 911 door

Hello Everyone:

I was wondering if anyone has ever shipped a car door? How did you do it? How did you pack it? Most important, WHERE did you get the box to ship the door? And, last, what carrier did you use?

I have a fellow Pelican wanting a door that I have, but am striking out finding sources for getting it there safely.

Thanks for any help.

Ed:

The only safe way to ship a door is to build a wooden crate, pack the outside of the door skins and make sure it cannot move around in the crate.

UPS & FedEx have weight limits at 150 lbs so if the crated door is beyond that, you'll need to ship using a common carrier. DHL is another good carrier.

You can used the half pallets or a full size pallet. I would think about using a freight company like TEAMair.com. They will probabaly be cheaper than Fedex, Ups and the rest.
I would suggest you go to a tile warehouse/store and ask them to sell you a crate or half pallet.

I'm going to be selling a few viper green doors and I might have to deal with shipping these things..

Good Luck

I have shipped a few. I used bicycle boxes lined with rigid foam and used thin plywood or damaged paneling. Greyhound was always the fastest and cheapest.
