is swepco safe for a turbo tranny with LSD

Have switched the tranny oil in my 930 4 speed with LSD diff from the previous owners (synthetic maybe?) to Swepco 304.......which I know is the preferred oil for 915 tranny's.
I just want to make sure that since this car has a limited slip that the Swepco is still the best oil to use or will it effect the LSD in a bad manner.
New to 930 4 speeds so don't know if Swepco is as beneficial as it was in the non LSD 915 tranny in my 911SC.

I run Swepco, street and track with no problems, I have LSD. Tried Mobil synthetic, took it out as shifting was not as smooth.

i believe the swepco for the 915 is a 201 product. my tranny was just rebuilt with a guard lsd installed and the swepco 201 was the recommended lube.

Swepco For Lsd...

Howdy,

I just had this same discussion with my Porsche Mechanic who does a lot of race care prep. He said that the Swepco is too slippery for the LSD rear end. He recommended another product, but right now the name escapes me.

I was using Swepco in my tranny with a LSD rear end. However some where some one swap out the rear end for a standard one before I bought the car. Any one have 915 LSD rear transaxle for sale? That's how this whole conversation came up about Swepco and LSD rear ends.

PM me and I can ask him the name...

What is #304? It may be the incorrect lubricant. What you want is definitely 201, as it is LSD friendly, and the correct viscosity for the 930. We just went through this with a customer. His mechanic had switched him over from Swepco to Mobil 1 synthetic in his 930 ..... bad mistake. His synchros couldn't do the job properly, and wore the sleeves and synchro teeth out in short order.

Mitch, Your mechanic has also given you bad advice. Put the Swepco 201 back in. Only 203 should be avoided with LSD.

Some mechanics seem to believe that Swepco is a synthetic. 203 won't allow the LSD to work properly (and likely the 915/930/901 synchros, too).

I run the 201 in my 930 tranny with LSD. No issues and in fact will be performing my second gear oil change with 201 this weekend.

I meant Swepco 201 just a typo.......
So consensus says it is safe for the LSD, that is good.

I have been using Swepco in my 915 and am about to change it to Shell Rotella 80-90 gear oil, as I found some cheap on sale. No complaints about the Swepco, other than availability and price. I'll let you know if it shifts any differently. The guy who rebuilt my trans a few years ago said it will be fine, and any quality lube is OK, as long as it's not synthetic. I think John Walker has said the same thing, and doesn't see the Swepco as anything magical.
