89 930 Alternator in battery destruct mode...
So my alt. died on my 89 930 about 6 months or more ago. I was out in nowhere and drove it home, only ran out of juice to run ignition 2 blocks from home, an easy push!
I ordered up a rebuilt from our host and installed. I put the battery on the slow charge and got it back up to full charge and fired her up, everything was great...for a while... Cut too a couple weeks ago, after a 2 week hiatus of not driving her, I went to start her and the battery wouldn't crank her over. I charged on the slow charge for a few hours and then she fired right up. However, if I shut her down for 12 hours or more, the battery wouldn't hold a charge. New battery time. That's the history, here's the issue at hand. After about 10-15 minutes of driving I get intermittent problems with what SEEMS to be overcharging. I know it's coming because the seatbelt warning light comes on, then the tach starts bouncing all over, then all the lights and fans go to power ELEVEN... I had a voltmeter hooked up for a short run but of course Murphy went into hiding in the face of quantative data gathering. I'm going to try again but I'm pretty sure we're overcharging here... Any ideas as to WHY a newly rebuilt alt and new battery would have these symptoms? Whew...that's a long post. Thanks!

Any warranty on the rebuilt alternator / internal regulator? Sure sounds like the problem.
