Value of 15x7" Fuchs

Hi all;

Whilst browsing the classifieds for a pair of 15x7" Fuchs, I came across this ad from a few weeks ago;

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/364505-fs-fuchs-7-x-15-w-3-pong-cap.html

I notice that these 1973 15x7" Fuchs are going for a higher premium than other 15x7"s, which recently have been going for ~ US$600/pair.

Why would the above pair be so valuable?

Did these 'earlier' 15x7"s come in a rarer offset (perhaps more suited to narrow body cars)?

Or are they identical to later 15x7" wheels, but just priced more highly bec they are genuine longhood wheels?

Many thanks!

They are priced higher because they use the early 3 clip center caps. This means they are correct for an RS Carrera.

Thanks dvkk;

More questions, for my own education!

So you mean to say that these were the correct front wheels for an RS?

Are they identical to the later (post 1974) 15x7's apart from the 3-clip centre caps?

Were 15x7's ever a FACTORY option for standard narrow-body 911's? Fronts and rears, or rears only?

I don't think they ever were, the R wheels being the only exception I know of. And, as far as identical, yes, the rest of the wheel is the same backset, etc., but the dates on the back will also give them away. So, a '73 15 x 7 dated as such and using 3 prongs is unique. However, over 1500 of these cars were made, plus spare parts. That still only makes 7 or so thousand (at the most, but who knows?) wheels in all of history.

I could be wrong, I am frequently. But that's what I think I know.

Are the 15x6 that use the three clip covers are rare as well?

No, not rare at all. Although the late 6s that use the ring type caps are more common.
