Door trigger snapped
 

The trigger on my driver side door just gave out and I can't open my door now. I did a search and found out I can take the handle out by removing a pin or rod? Do I need a new door handle or just a part to repair?

The trigger is made out of pot metal. If it broke you will need to get a new handle and trigger mechanism.

I just finished a project to replace my door handle due to broken trigger.
The hardest part of the job is recovering from the shock of what it costs to repair.
New parts are NLA from Porsche, so you need to find a used one.
Replacement is not that difficult. Remove the interior door panel, then remove two small nuts that retain the outer door handle.
While you have the door panel off, be sure to lubricate all the moving parts inside the door. Lubrication should help new trigger to last longer.

Search in the classifieds. You should be able to pick up a replacement handle / trigger for much less $$$. I just replaced the trigger on mine.

It's really pretty easy. The handle comes off with two small nuts. You might be able to find a trashed handle cheap and just use the trigger.

You don't mention what year car you have??

A friend and myself are getting close to producing the triggers for the 1974 thru 89 models. They are made from aluminum (not pot metal), are built slightly larger at the pivot pin point (strength) and we are thinking that we will be guaranteeing them for life to the original purchaser.

A couple weeks out, maybe more, but I may have a couple of prototypes laying around.

If it is the correct year for your car 1974-89, send me a PM with your address and I'll dig around and see if I can find one of the proto's to at least carry you over till the finals come out.

madmamac is onto something here. I had the trigger break on my drivers side as well. It was a couple of years ago, so I bought the entire assembly from Pelican, and used just the trigger. It wasn't that bad of a PITA.

I was going to look into having these made by a friend of mine who has a CNC machine. If you are serious I will not pursue it further.

Sorry I should have worded the problem better. The trigger itself is fine but the tension inside went out. I did find a prior post and found a pic of the mechanism. Not too sure what is broken...it may be as simple as the spring. You will have to get in to see.

The door panel is easy to get off. Remove the top piece-2 screws on each end, with one under a cover, pull up and rotate off. Go around the door and remove the screws. Remove the door handle allen heads--gently pull up and off the handle pull, remove the arm rest and side pocket. Gently go around the door and pop off the panel.
