964 Engine Lid on earlier 911?

Hey Guys..

Are there any fitment issues in mounting a 964 engine lid on a mid 80s SC or Carrera?

I know the 964 hinges and closing panel are different.. but they look like they are positioned the same oon the uderside of the lid. Any mods needed?

Thanks!!

Haven't been able to locat that thread with the search. Oh, and stronger hinge for what SC/Carrera or 964?

My issue is weather or not the 964 engine lid will fit the S/C or Carrera body.. or how much work/what mod is need to do so?

Thanks

Contact Matt-man for the hinges. Once the hinges are taken care of, the fit should be fine.

The lid itself fits without any modification. The hinges attach about 1 inch wider on each side of the 964 lid so the hinges need to be modified to fit the earlier car and the 964 lid itself.

You also lose the condenser in the lid if you have A/C.

I fitted my SC with a 964 cover,

I tried it with the SC hinges in place and IIRC they were too narrow and would need stepping outwards a bit, mind you they look pretty flimsy in comparison to the tubular intended 964 hinges,

once on (also IIRC) the distributor needs turning through 90 degrees to face upwards on the cooling cowel so to clear the cover.

I controlled mine by mounting a window button forward facing in the front of the door cubby box, it worked fine and in my opinion looked great,
purists no doubt sniffed but who cares.

Would say however the lack of tea-tray in effect glueing the rear wheels down is at once noticeable and not for everyone, on that the purists may have something

I'll see if I can link the thread shortly

You've successfully confused me. What is the connecting flex-drive used for? Is it the motor used to raise the surface?

Motor fixes to underside of cover using Three bolts through rubber bushes,
then via a short flexi-drive to the half-moon shaped cog connecting the spoiler to cover.

(its just a push fit into the motor, as the shaft itself is square)

You can easilly wind the spoiler up & down during installation manually by twiddling that flexi'

I couldn't get the micro-switching to work to shut off power when spoiler reached end of its travel, so instead just counted seven seconds while operating the button
