Detente threaded insert repair
The hex head bolt was removed and the threaded insert and thread remnants came with it. An M12 bolt goes right in the hole now so an M12 tap isn't going to help much. Current thought is to JB weld in a new threaded insert. Anyone have suggestions on how to fix this?

Keith
Threaded inserts are available with different external thread sizes for a given internal thread size. Not only are there different types of threaded inserts (helicoil, timecerts, etc) there are "heavy duty" inserts that have oversize external threads. Choose a new threaded insert that has the same internal threads, but with external threads big enough to fit the remaining case material. This link has an example of insert that is available in both "thin wall" and "heavy duty", each with different external threads. http://www.newmantools.com/key.htm#metlink

a short 10mm timesert usually fixes it. never tighten those bolts much. snug plus a little. they're very short and will pull the threads easily. looks like loctite was used on yours. don't use any this time.

One of these products should work... http://www.fulltorque.com/fft.htm
Or make your own from threaded rod loctited in place. There's lots of meat there to repair it. |

Thanks for all your input. Went with the Newman Tools key insert.
Put the detente in and plugged the hole with an earplug. Drilled out the hole then tapped it. The insert was then threaded in and the keys were hammered in to lock the insert in place. Its once again like new. Thanks. ![]() ![]()
