Power window test
Searched a few threads but couldn't come up with a definitive answer. Right window on my 1978 SC doesn't work. How can I figure out whether it's the switch, the regulator, or the motor before pouring out money for replacement parts. First 911 and I'm reasonably mechanically inclined (Can build the hell out of a house, but haven't done that much on cars). Suggestions?

About the only thing you can check without removing the door panel is the switch. You could remove switch from other door that is known to work and swap them to see if that is it.
Beyond that you will need to remove the door panel and see what is going on inside. |
I take it that the driver's side does work? Fuse is okay? Did it work before and just stopped or has it never worked? The switches get jostled quite a bit from opening and closing the door and you could find from pulling the switch that one of the connectors has come free.
BTW, taking the door panel off is very easy to do. Once you rule out the switch as noted above, there's not much left that it could be. |
The driver's side works, but slowly. Was planning to take the door panel off anyway and junk them in favor of some RS style panels, so I figured I would knock it all out with one shot. The passenger window has never worked as long as I owned the car. Will try switching the switches.

It could just be that the wires are connected wrong to the switch. It's very easy to do. If you don't have the Bentley manual (you should pick one up), let me know and I'll post which color wires connect to the numbered terminals.

I just had the similar problem on mine. It turned out to be a wire disconnect on the drivers side. Check and see if you have 12v going to the drivers side switch. I thinks its #3 & #5 post on the rocker switch? Do a search on this site, I know there is a post with a diagram.

It's usually the switch.
As 911mnypt said it could also be switch for the passenger door on the driver's door, and I'm not sure that if you remove that switch to install on the passenger door that it will work. I'd probably just buy a new switch; they're not that expensive. That worked for me. |
