CIS Airbox Rubber Connectors
Background:
I blew up my airbox last week. 78 SC, CIS, big intake runners. I had a disabled popoff valve (due to my turbo, I disabled it). I had the good fortune to pick up a nice Webb stainless steel airbox. According to Webb, they made two sizes; 2.4 CIS, and everything else. Evidently, everything else must have meant all 2.7-3.0 variants. However, I have the large intake runners, and the box connectors are for the smaller 2.7 and later small runner SC configuration. So, I need to try and get new boots for the connectors, as my connectors are too big, by roughly 4 mm diameter. Anyone else ever put a Webb on an early SC, and how did you work around the size mismatch? I think I'll get the early connectors and try to stretch them over the intake runners, rather than try to squeeze the big connectors over the fittings on the airbox. Seems less likely to leak this way. I am open to comment and suggestions. TIA Pat

Diameter Adaptor......
Pat,
I would try using a 'bushing or sleeve' to compensate for the difference in the ID/OD. Just my two-cents. Tony PS: Still hoping to see you motor someday. Thanks. |

Tony:
That was my first thought. I think I can use some of this special electrical tape/insulation we have at work to make up the diameter, and then seal it up with silicone and slip the boots over the airbox like that, while the silicone is still wet. I'm worried about leakage under boost with that method. I ordered some 2.7 connectors, so we'll see what those look like. Let me know when you want to come by. I have the engine out again right now. Pat, I wish I had seen your post earlier. I have a set of 2.7 connectors sitting in my basement. I could have run them over to you. I bought them to replace my OEM, 30 year-old connectors, and then saw how big a job it was (no room to remove those suckers without removing the airbox). Having a CIS without a Pop-Off is like driving without a seatbelt.

I just picked up some connectors from Jake. They are the later SC connectors with the rib in the middle. I'd be happy to take them off your hands should you decide to reduce the Lake Iosco Racing inventory. But, would you have delivered them in the Nash? Pat

Pat, I just finished reading all 15 pages of the oil thread. I'm switching from M1 15W-50 to M1 V-Twin 20W-50 motorcycle oil....tomorrow! If you plan to use the 2.7 connectors I can run them over to you early next week, in the Nash if you prefer.

Pat, is that the Amsoil Harley V-Twin 20W-50 "approved" on the first page of the oil thread on this Forum? If so, yes, I can be talked into a trade for six, 2.7 rubber air box connectors!

I'll have to check into it tonight when I get back from work. I do know it is Polaris OEM stuff, and the dealer told me it is manufactured by Amsoil. I'd have to research it some more for the actual contents. I'll drop you a line tonight. Pat
