Whats the best oil for the 915 5speed transmission

Hi, I was just wondering whats the best grade and type of oil for the 915 type 5 speed gearbox?, ive been told that by using a thick 80/90 hypoid oil it can be hard to select gears sometimes?

Swepco 201 is the unanimous choice (don't know if it's easy to get in Spain). Pelican sells it...

In Spain you should be able to easily obtain Castrol LSX90. This dino oil is much less expensive than imported Swepco, with a good reputation for high pressure protection.

While the 915 doesn't have a hypoid R&P, hypoid oils have good high pressure protection.... which is why they're highly recommended for small-geared early Porsches.

Swepco is highly recommended by some of the best 915 race track tranny rebuilders in the US.

I've got a similar problem in that Swepco isn't readily available here in Ireland and would be terribly expensive to import it from America. I will try and look for the Castrol LSX90 which Geary suggests, but if I can't find that does anyone know of any other Europe available Swepco alternatives?

Castrol LSX90 is readily available in Europe, but not available to us here in the U.S.

I switched to Swepco 201 earlier this year. It did help smooth the shifting a bit into 2nd, especially when it warms up. This also took a couple months to notice it, does the fluid need to "break in" a little? Also, is it normal to have a drip or two leak out every week or two after a change? I didn't have a leak before?? I'm wondering now if I should have it checked. I have also confirmed that this car does much better off driven frequently and hard at times rather than sitting in the damn garage, like women and sex...

Most importantly, if you use anything other than Swepco your trans will not go into gear, and will self destruct in short order....
