Smoky engine
I just recently started my 1983 Carrera after a few months, after filling it up with thin oil and started smoking like crazy, my question is
Do I need a rebuild? or Maybe is the thin oil on this engine. |

Run the engine for a few minutes and the smoke should go away. The nature of a flat six engine allows oil to seep past the rings when the car has been sitting for awhile.

You mention you "filled it up with thin oil"........It's possible your oil drained down, filled the sump and maybe even got past the rings into the muffler. Then, if you filled it before you started the car, it is now over filled............Ideally, you would have started the car, driven it a min. of 15 or 20 minutes and then checked the oil with the engine idling.......
Do what Kurt sez and then check the oil with the engine warm and running.......

Check the oil with the engine RUNNING , the engine warm - running at least 30 minutes - on level ground. ONLY.
NEVER, EVER check the oil on a cold engine not running. EVER. NEVER, EVER add oil to a cold engine. You may have way too much oil in the engine / oil tank if you added oil to the cold engine. If you did, you need to drain some out, it could take a looong time to burn it off. |
