Ignition key switch return question.. 78 SC

What part of the ignition switch assembly performs the 'spring back' function? In other words, when you turn it to 'Start', the key will not spring back to the run position. It will stay in the Start position with the engine running and starter engaged until you move it out of that position. You can manually move it over easily, just wont 'auto' spring back. I'm not sure if its the electrical portion of the switch, or the bigger aluminum portion that has the steering lock mechanism in it. I havet taken it apart just yet.

It's the electrical portion that provides the detents and the spring back function.

The mechanical portion just moves from one extreme to the other (just double-checked the one here that I robbed the electrical portion from a week or so ago).

It is possible to replace the electrical portion without drilling out the shear bolts, but it can be a real pig to get to the top screw if it's tight on the metal portion of the dash (mine was). I used a screwdriver bit and a miniture ratchet, not much else would fit.

Brake cleaner and then WD-40 right into the switch...work your key back and forth, left and right.
