fuel gauge

1986 Carrera fuel gauge low level light does not extinguish regardless of amount of fuel in the tank. Level indicator is working correctly.
If it is a problem with the sender, can it be repaired?
How do you determine if the gauge or sender is at fault?
Thank you

If you pull the plug from the top of the tank sender, and the light goes out then the problem is the sender. If the light stays on then you have a wiring problem.
The sender is easy to remove and disassemble. Rob

If you need to replace the unit, here's a good walkthrough of the removal/installation - https://youtu.be/RbGRrPJDhmk. Done it myself- easy. Only comment about the video is ALWAYS replace the gasket!
