Caster angle changes from build year to year?
 

I have had a few 911's. Several long hoods and a Carrera. My 1984 Carrera's steering effort was MUCH heavier then any longhood car I have driven. I can't see how it could be just a weight issue. Are the stock caster angles for all years of 911 the same? The 84 dove like it had a lot more caster. It was very stable at high speeds but was a bear in town. Could one lighten up the steering of the later car by removing some caster? I like the later car but the heavy steering is a drag.

Caster is pretty much the same from long to short hood. The difference you are feeling is likely the result of excessive negative camber from lowering and bigger low profile rubber.

Lots of things have an effect on steering feel. Tire size, wheel offset, tire pressure, and alignment settings are some of the heavy hitters.

Provide details on these items and detail any other suspension mods.

Actually, the castor was increased slightly from 1969 to 1970. To elaborate on what Chuck said, as tires and wheels got wider, this would have increased the offset between the center of the contact patch and the steering axis, which would increase the steering effort too.

Thanks for the thoughts. The two cars had the same size tires. I wonder if the offsets of deep six's and the Carrera 15x6's are different?
