Oil change on a 964

Hello

Is the oil change procedure of a 964 the same as an 911/3.2?

Do you have to drain the engine & the seperate oil reservoir

What kind of oil chould be used for this car?

Thanks
Regards
Porscheke

basically the same. oil tank first, then the engine. then there's the filter issue. when you remove it, a torrent of oil pours out over everything, unless you punch a hole in the outer edge of the filter and using a rubber tipped airgun, blow the oil back into the tank for about one minute. keep the tank drainplug out and collect the oil in a pan. then there is virtually no mess. don't forget to put the plug back in though.

I've watched this procedure. Do yourself a favor and punch a hole in the top of the filter while the tank drain plug is out. I think the alternative is about two quarts of oil into the engine compartment.

Does the 964 take the same oil filter as an SC? I have a mahle left over from the 'old' car...
Also is their more than one oil filter on the 964? I thought there was another one mounted to the engine??

I ordered the Bentley book on the car, but it hasn't arrived yet....

I finally got proficient about changing the oil on my SC and now I have to worry about new jacking points and 'Gushing' oil filters!

same filter. 993s had a second one where the oil cooler lived on the 3.2 and earlier engines.

Ahh, yes "Without Guesswork". The Bentley 964 manual.
Definately written for a different type of Porsche owner (not necessarly one that frequents this bb).
Should you ever run out of toilet paper it will come in handy. As for using it to even change your oil, I'm sorry to say that your out of luck.
