Question Yeah it RUNS! uh-ho...won't shut off...

Steve's cabby project is a 1980 that was converted (aftermarket) to a slantnose before we bought it. Abyssmal wiring job on the car. We bought the car as a roller - been fixing what was obviously damaged and replacing sections that were melted or heavily spliced with OEM used porsche parts.

We put a 3.2 into it using the directions found on this site. Pretty excited to get it running this weekend - wow this engine sound AWESOME with the big two-out stainless exhaust!!!

Here's the problem though. Everything is hot all of the time. As soon as the battery is hooked up - EVERYTHING has power even with the key in the off position, wipers, DME, fuel pump, dash lights you name it. Key off, accessory, run - no changes. Car will start by the key, but not shut off by the key.

Pulled the ignition wiring from the back of the switch and confirmed with the Bentley manual that I have it right. We also pulled the hazard switch and light switch and confirmed all the points were matching the Bentley manual.

Something is grossly wrong (perhaps with the original chassis wiring?) and I'm feeling rather lost. Can you guys suggest a likely direction to check?

Is there a way for me to test the switch in the car? I can read the terminals, 30, X, P, etc., with the plug off and the switch in place. Hate to buy a switch without testing it but if I can't test it in the car, I'll put a new one in (that top screw is going to be a little stinker to get out).
