Bypass AC controls to test AC system

Is this possible? My fan speed knob is rusted in the off position, and im sure even if i could get it to turn, the contacts are too rusted to make electrical connections. Can i bypass the switch in anyway to make sure it's only the switch failing the system?

Is the switch RUSTED in the off position, or was it FRIED in that position by overheating or a short? Assuming that you have the switch exposed, you can disconnect the wires and jumper from the single hot wire to each of the three wires (one at a time!) that control which speed is selected. The hot wire is a big red one. Use a voltmeter to determine which one is hot and which is ground, and protect the hot one until you're ready to start the process.
