Blue exhaust smoke after muffler replacement

1986 911 Cabriolet, 3.2 I recently replaced my noisy muffler with a stock one. It was purchased used, from DC Automotive. After the engine achieved operating temperature bluish smoke began coming from the exhaust. It should be noted that the rear of the car was on ramps the entire night before the muffler replacement. I'm not sure if the car being raised, or the new (used) muffler is contributing to the problem. I've not had this problem prior to the muffler replacement. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Nice to see another 86 owner on the board. Some pictures of the car would be a start. Now, you problem is quite likely from some old oil residue in the muffler. Take it for a good drive and let it burn off.

Tony, thanks for the input. I thought that might be the case. I made a mistake in saying that I had a 1986. It is indeed a 1985. Pictures hopefully to follow.

Due to the engines in our cars is normal for some smoke to come out during the first minute or so.... if it does not go away then you have a problem.

Or moisture or oil in a muffler - happens when they have been lying around the shop. Same thing happend when I bought a used muffler - take it for a good long fast drive - your car will clear out - and love you much more for the jaunt.

My blue smoke problem has stopped after prolonged driving. What a relief. I am now attempting to sell my old muffler. It works perfectly, just a bit throatier than I would like. If anyone is interested, please contact me with an offer. Thanks again for your input.
