No power to fuses...No headlights. New High beam switch

1981 911

With the key on-
All lights work, NOT headlights BUT did get HIGHBEAMS to come on using the steering column turn signal / high beam switch.

I decided to put in new steering column turn signal / high beam switch thinking It would get the Headlights to work. NOPE!
with a new switch, the same is happening, all lights work, except NOW high beams dont work either.

What now? Anyone have a picture of the dash, shown the headlight switch wire location ?

I am sure I could have put a wire on the wrong in the wrong connector on the pull switch on dash. Which I will check.

Could it be the dash headlight switch?

I did notice that the OLD switch has a yellow side wire that was connected to itself...the new switch wire had a yellow wire coming from its side loose and the other end was was taped against the side of the cable as if its not to be used...Why? Doesnt it need to be connected somewhere?

You may see an issue in one of my pics

Pretty sure that wire (red w/ white stripe) needs to go into the blank terminal on pic 3. it should not be on the same terminal as the solid thick red wire.

this is what someone had said..

"There is a both a white/black and yellow wire coming from that terminal. These look to be connected together on one of your photos but should be both attached to terminal 56"
Terminal 56, from what I can see in the photo, is where you mentioned that the red w/ white strip should go.

Not sure what to do! any thoughts?

Now that diagram in post #5 is different to the one I was referring to in your parallel post. So I think the white/blue should go to terminal 56 as on your sketch and the yellow wire to the yellow wire that emerges from the dip switch. It looks like there are two diagrams for the dipped headlights. On my car (1978SC) both white/blue and yellow are connected to terminal 56 but this means that on main beam the dipped beam stays on. I found a dangling yellow wire near the light switch (which comes from the dipswitch) and connected the yellow wire to it so now the dipped beam goes off when the main beam is selected. So my car now corresponds to the diagram in post #5.

I think this may be the dangling yellow wire I'm talking about, although since you have two threads going I'm now confused as to which one I'm answering. With the two yellow wires connected as above I think will give the result I now have on my car; dipped beam goes out when main selected. If the taped yellow you refer to was connected directly to 56 then dipped beam will stay on when main is selected. That's my understanding.

I now see the double connector spade for 56

I see there is a "dual" spade on the Blk / White wire. I will leave the yellow off 56 as on your car. I will connect the yellow to itself on the dipper switch. I guess its a preference to use the Black/ white together on 56.

Headlights and highbeams working..EXCEPT highbeam pull, to "flash"

Headlights are working, brights also come on when stem is pushed forward to on position BUT when pulled back for high beam to "flash", its not working at all. The turn signal switch is brand new. Must have missed a wire somewhere.

The flash is always available; it's powered from #30. There should be 2 wires on #30: red and red/white. Power comes in on the red and goes out on the red/white. But there is more than one red/white around; have you connected the red/whites correctly?
