I think I found the problem!!
Sorry guys but I could not find any search items that matched this... I'm hoping someone can help me. I was trying to install the belt on my motor and I could not get the pulley half to go on enough to start the nut on the threads. Now I suspect that somehow I don't have the fan seated sufficiently as shown in the pics. i have tried to torque the s**t out of it but it wont go down. I cannot seem to find a spec on proper clearance for the fan.
Can anyone please help me with this? I hope I don't have to take the fan and housing back out. ![]() ![]() ![]() Okay, I got the fan off, and the stepped washer behind the fan seems to be too thick. The Bentley Manual doesn't show the correct one, jdoes anyone have a diagram? ![]()

The fan hub is probably hanging up on the half moon shaped key on the alternator shaft. Try pulling off the fan and flattening the key in the slot. You may have to push it on gingerly to get the key to not slide up and wedge in place.

I can pull my fan off by inserting #14 house wire thru the fan holes, top and bottom and pulling or using the fan wrench as a lever against the nut treaded on the shaft.
Looks like the fan would be lined up with the key with that much of the shaft exposed - try threading the nut over a washer to push the fan in prior to inserting spacers and pulley half..... ![]() |
