odometer with a twist

I just broke in to my odometer last night expecting to find a few teeth missing from the drive gear.....Instead I found a little slop in the worm gear motor shaft. It slid to and from the drive gear with a definite clicking feel - I repositioned it by "clicking" it in the position for best engagement of the worm gear and the infamous drive gear. All seems operative for the time being.

I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or knows if such movement is normal in that motor shaft

Kind Regrads,

Afraid to reset my trip odometer
