Oil breather/swirl tank necessary?
I've been checking out the pics on here Engine Pics Wanted-Needed
and have noticed some people are using swirl tanks/overflow tanks while others (like Fishcop) are just going to a breather filter. ![]() ![]() Is a tank necessary? This is a track-only car if that makes a difference... thanks

john
i think randy has hit the nail on the head. CAMS rules specify a tank or recirculation via the air cleaners - from memory the tank volume is based on engine volume. i had an AL tank attached to the rear cross bar when i had webers. i'm now using MFI and the stock recirculation setup.

In all seriousness, it's been just another of the things I've got to get around to doing... I've slipped under the scruitineers radar a couple of times - bound to get caught eventually ![]()

it'll also save you from blowing oil droplets all over - prolonged high rpm's will do it.

Thanks again guys. Those "Stefs" cans look great...I suppose I'll do a search on the downsides of having oil and vapors venting into the intake (as the street cars are plumbed...)
Hey Randy, my FJ40 never needed a can, but then again I guess 3800 rpm redline doesn't really qualify as "high revs" does it!

probably not -- but the design of the valvetrain & etc. would affect things too
there are some threads on this if you search

Am I missing something on this? Do all porsche 911 cars blow oil at high RPMs? Thanks all. Eric
