Headlights on, under-dash lights off. Headlights off, under-dash lights on. Please...
First, let me say sorry because this problem is not on my P car, but on my Lexus. I have been asking several questions on Lexus board with no help, while I know many of you also own Lexus, therefore I take my chance here. I hope someone can help and most don't mind.
It is a 2000 ES300, Platinum if matter. The car has been fine for a long time until recently. During the day when fog/head lights are all off, I can see all interior lights fine but at night when I switch either to 1, 2, or 3 position (fog, head, or auto light) my under-dash light, radio/CD screen, and fan/AC control screen lights are all out. Turn off all fog/head lights, all interior lights are back on. For several nights, I have been driving completely in the dark when head lights turn on. Does anyone know where/what the problem is? I hope it is a relay somewhere but no idea where/how to start. Anyone had this problem and know a fix? Thanks in advance.

Is there a dimmer switch for the dash illumination? Try twiddling it about a bit

good idea. I'll try that. Thanks.
No wait a min. If it's the dimmer switch then I wouldn't have the light when the lights switch is off. Can't be the switch... but I'll try it away. Thanks.

Again, thanks.

Are all the lighting controls on the steering column combination switch? If so, it might be a bad switch. Obtain a service manual (factory or aftermarket or internet). Find the matrix diagram of the switch contact positions for your MY vehicle (hi-low headlight, tailight, IP lights, turn signal, dimmer, windshield washer and wiper speed, etc.).
You'll also have to trace the current path from source through this switch to the load. And with a digital multimeter, check the switch by disconnecting the harness connector and confirm continuity in the various switch positions. Hope this helps, Sherwood |
