fan shroud installation trick?

After teplacing my alternator I am struggling to get the fan shroud back into position and feel I am missing some simple trick. I have it back in position and hooked up but I cannot seem to guide it far enough back into its position for the shroud to completely clear the crank pulley. Is there any trick to this or something that I am missing?

I wish I would have taken a better look at the shroud and the bottom of the strap assemb ly as I feel it is binding up on something on the bottom.

Slide it back out and make sure the wires are not hanging up back there and also check that little shroud that covers the back of the alternator is in the proper position. The regulator needs to be on top and and the two curved fins of that little shroud need to be up on the upper left side, angling downward toward the left.

Other than that, you need to just slide the fan shroud in as straight as you can, leading slightly with the bottom first, so the pin engages the little slot it needs to be in. Then push the whole fan forward all the way until it hits the engine case. Once in, it'll only clear the fan pulley by a tiny amount.

thanks for the response. I believe it is the pin at the bottom I am not engaging on properly as one i get it in as far as I can it seem higher on the right then on the left.

think I got it. Knowing there was a pin down there is what i was missing. Rocking it back and forth while tilt it toward the bottom seemed to find the pin. Wish I would have checked it out better before I stuck it back in. Figured that it could not be that hard and I was making it complicated.

Good news.

Over the years I've learned SO much from others on this board. What a great resource! :)
