Instrument Lights won't dim, 75 911

The light switch lacks the normal rotary movement that dims the dash panel lights. Anything in the switch which could be cleaned or is it toast? Thanks,

did it work previously?

do you have lower and high beams that come on at the same time?

- for the later mod. people often 'steal' the wire/tab that regulates the dash lights...

Car is relatively new to me. Hasn't worked since I got it. No problem with the stalk or its functioning. I don't think I have highs and lows on at same time, sure doesn't seem like it! But I'll check next time I get access (Cars at shop at the moment.) Thanks for your interest

I didn't know that any of our early cars ever had a "bright" dash that needed dimmed

My 73.5T did...right before one of the batteries exploded.

I actually thought I might get some MORE light if I could turn the switch. How silly of me!

I got from your initial post that the switch wouldn't rotate, is that right? If so, then something is gumming up the switch and cleaning may help.

Gotta love it....
From what I've gathered, when most owners dim the lights at all, they essentially go off. Bright is not an optiion. They are either off or just as good as off...

Oh, and for night driving you can judge how fast you are going by the number of cop cars behind you.......
